PAR(I)TY WITH US - The 10 million euro exhibition

The relationship between women and men in the art world is the focus of an exhibition at the aquabitArt Gallery. Under the title PAR(I)TY WITH US, a unique platform will be created to challenge inequalities in the art market and initiate transformative discussions about gender parity in art.

Considering the current situation where the ratio of female artists to male artists at Gallery Weekend is around 40% to 60%, while art schools have an inverse ratio of 65% female artists to 35% male artists, this exhibition raises urgent questions. Is it twice as likely to be exhibited as an artist at Gallery Weekend?

PAR(I)TY WITH US invites visitors to reflect on these inequalities and explore the possibilities of reorganizing and shaping the future of the art world.

With this exhibition, aquabitArt Gallery will equalize the ratio of this year's Gallery Weekend between male and female artists to 50% / 50% by presenting a group exhibition consisting exclusively of works by female artists, thus closing the existing gap.

The two gallery spaces will feature a symbiosis of international female artists and a solo presentation by SALOON München artist Janine Mackenroth. Together with Sarah Maske from SALOON Berlin, she has developed the exhibition concept for the Gallery Weekend.

She will cover the floor with millions of shredded Deutsche Bundesbank banknotes, which she will "lay at the feet", so to speak, of the works of the artists from the SALOON network. Mackenroth is currently working with the colors of the EURO banknotes, which can be found both as a nail polish edition and in her paintings. The new nail polish "ONE HUNDRED EURO GREEN", which can be purchased for 100 euros, is being released especially for the opening.

PAR(I)TY WITH US goes beyond the mere representation of art and invites viewers to reflect on the need for a reorganization of the art world. We received 60 applications from the SALOON network and 20 positions were invited to exhibit the missing number of female positions at Gallery Weekend 2024 - and thus make a statement. We not only want to highlight the inequalities, but also show alternative ways of achieving gender parity in art. In addition, the subtitle suggests that all the works on display in the exhibition will potentially be worth a lot more and gives a nod towards buying art for its potential to increase in value.
