Staging:

Neither balm nor medicinal herb can bring relief to the ailing Grail King Amfortas. The path to his recovery turns out to be complex. No initiate of the Grail community, only an outsider, a "pure fool" who becomes a knower through compassion, can retrieve the spear that caused the wound, touch Amfortas' wound with its tip and thus heal him. On his journey to self-knowledge and the means of redemption, Parsifal is accompanied not only by the knowledgeable Grail knight Gurnemanz, but also by the enigmatic and seductive Kundry, who opens his eyes to both sensuality and the supernatural.

In his last music drama, the stage festival Parsifal, which premiered in Bayreuth in 1882, Richard Wagner explores the wounds that burn both in individuals and in communities and responds with miracle cures that are able to alleviate suffering.
