There they are again, our two club philosophers Fritz and Hermann, like the ox and the donkey at the manger. Because every year, right in the middle—exactly between November 11 and Ash Wednesday—right in the middle of the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas pushes its way in relentlessly. And right after that comes the New Year. A time for little packages and taking stock. And Fritz and Hermann make the most of it, just like every year. They’re fulfilling a wish made a thousand times over, without a thought for the dangers they might face in these times of war and heating crises—you never know what surprises might be inside those packages! Cluster bombs? Bribes? A heat protection plan? A new cabinet?—And they unwrap whatever fate has in store for us! Package by package. Packages filled with songs, ideas, and prejudices. The beloved, the wicked, the old and the new—and, of course, as always, answers to questions that no one actually asked.

The press calls them “the reincarnation of Pat and Patachon” (Frankfurter Rundschau), the “Rhenish answer to Gerhard Polt” (Rheinische Post); Viola Roggenkamp, in a wise presage, wrote in DIE ZEIT 30 years ago: “No one has more to say about the current ‘Sitewation’ in this country than the cabaret artists Rainer Pause and Norbert Alich”!
