Film stories: Dreams of rooms - living space in movies
PLAYTIME - TATI'S GLORIOUS TIMES
F/I 1967, 124', DCP, OmU - D: Jacques Tati
A group of American tourists arrive in a futuristic-looking Paris and marvel at the modern city of glass and concrete. At the same time, Monsieur Hulot tries to find a Monsieur Giffard, but gets lost in the sterile and uniform-looking buildings. The storylines intersect in a newly opened restaurant, whose ultra-fashionable façade increasingly crumbles over the course of the evening. The backdrop town built especially for the film shines in pastel blue-grey, in which functional-looking but non-functional things are sold and two old-fashioned people come together in shared wonder and amazement.
