Warsaw Week 2024 kicks off with a Polish film evening at the Bambi art house cinema. Four short films by students from the renowned WAJDA FILM SCHOOL in Warsaw will be shown. Founded in 2002, the film school brings students together with experienced filmmakers who support them in the realization and implementation of their own projects. The following four short films will be shown:
"Kolaudacja"/"Acceptance" by Eliza Kubarska, Jan P. Matuszyński, Marta Minorowicz and others (PL 2014, documentary, 25 min, OmeU)
The story is about the people behind the scenes, who are still the backbone of a film production even in the age of digital cinema. Andrzej Wajda says: "It is these people who determine the final form of a film, and they are the first to tell you whether what is being made is good or bad."
"Na żywo"/"Live" by Mara Tamkovich (PL 2022, short feature film, 14 min, OmeU)
Peaceful protests in Minsk after the fatal beating of a Belarusian opposition activist are put down by the police. Two journalists from an independent Belarusian television station are the only ones broadcasting the events live from the windows of one of the surrounding apartment blocks. When they are discovered by a militia drone, they have little time to decide whether they should continue reporting or ensure their safety. Inspired by true events.
"Jeszcze mnie nie znasz"/"You don't know me yet" by Joanna Krzyżewska (PL 2023, documentary film, 30 min, OmeU)
The film is an intimate portrait of a young couple who are confronted with unexpected news and have to get to know each other anew. Told with remarkable candor, this is a simple story about growing into a new role and coping with change.
"Trzy opowiadania o Basi"/"Three stories about Basia" by Mateusz Pietrak (PL 2023, documentary film, 30 min, OmeU)
Barbara is an energetic eighty-year-old woman who has not lost her curiosity about life. We observe the protagonist as a grandmother, mother, sister and actress. In simple scenes from her everyday life, humor and nostalgia alternate, while the most important themes of life are addressed: Love, old age and death.
