The screening is dedicated to the actress Adela Legrá, who died on January 2nd of this year in Santiago de Cuba.

Against the backdrop of Cuban history, a film unfolds that closely links personal memory and collective trauma. It tells the life of a woman whose biography, in flashbacks, traces key phases of Cuba's recent past: the struggle against Gerardo Machado's dictatorship in the 1930s, the hopes and disappointments of the following decades and the upheavals after the 1959 revolution.

Made in 1968 under the direction of Humberto Solás, the work is considered a key contribution to the "New Cuban Cinema". Formal rigor, symbolically charged images and an episodic structure combine to create a clearly political yet deeply subjective narrative style. The title character is less an individual heroine than a projection screen for social experiences. The film received international recognition early on, including awards at international festivals, and became a point of reference for Latin American auteur cinema of the 1960s. It continues to impress today with its consistent combination of personal fate, national history and cinematic innovation.
