In the 1960s, the logic of a patriarchally organized society forces a rape victim to marry the perpetrator - legitimized by the practice of the so-called "reparation marriage", which transforms male violence into social order. Against the backdrop of a Sicilian village milieu, the film unfolds the drama of a young woman who resists this mechanism and reports her tormentor. Inspired by the historical case of seventeen-year-old Franca Viola, the story marks a turning point in the Italian understanding of law and morality.

The protagonist Lia, 21 years old, headstrong and self-confident, refuses to have a relationship with the son of a mafia boss after an initial flirtation - and becomes the victim of brutal violence. Instead of restoring her "honor" through marriage, she decides to go to court. In a classic staging, PRIMADONNA traces this personal and legal struggle and expands it into a reflection on structural violence, ecclesiastical influence and the persistence of patriarchal norms - a historical case study with clear contemporary relevance.
