Decades after her mysterious disappearance, the Blood Countess reappears in modern-day Vienna. Together with her loyal servant Hermine, she sets out to track down a dangerous book that holds the power to destroy all evil—including vampires, a group to which she herself belongs.
The duo embarks on a scavenger hunt through the city’s magnificent historic sites and recruits the Countess’s melancholic nephew, a vegetarian vampire named Rudi Bubi, as well as his psychotherapist, to expand their search all the way to Bohemia. Two vampire researchers and a police inspector are hot on their heels.
Cult director Ulrike Ottinger and cult author Elfriede Jelinek reinterpret the vampire myth: as an opulent adventure story full of morbid humor. Featuring a star-studded cast including Isabelle Huppert, Birgit Minichmayr, Thomas Schubert, Lars Eidinger, and André Jung.
