Ravi Coltrane - Translinear Light - The Music Of Alice Coltrane
In the organizer's words:
With the "Translinear Light" project, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane sheds new light on the visionary work of his mother, jazz innovator Alice Coltrane. The son of music icons John and Alice Coltrane, he was born in 1965 and named after sitar master Ravi Shankar. After the early death of his father, he grew up under the formative influence of his mother, whose spiritual depth laid his artistic foundation. After decades of contemplation, it was Ravi himself who persuaded her to return to the studio and produce her final masterpiece "Translinear Light" in 2004. The album is regarded as a groundbreaking document of "spiritual jazz", in which Alice Coltrane fused Indian mantras, gospel influences and profound meditations into a universal unity.
In a career spanning over thirty years, the Grammy-nominated saxophonist has long since established himself as an independent force with six acclaimed albums and musical encounters with greats such as McCoy Tyner and Jack DeJohnette. In addition to his work as a bandleader, he is now heavily involved in preserving his parents' legacy. Together with a top-class line-up, he is now continuing this world of sound live. The concert experience alternates between lyrical stillness and raw, powerful energy and makes the timeless modernity of Alice Coltrane's work tangible for the present day.
