In the organizer's words:
In the northern hemisphere, north is to the left. The musical compass of "Nord" points in this direction. Norwegian Rebekka Bakken, who has carved out an unmistakable place for herself in the international music scene with her unique blend of jazz, folk, pop and Nordic melancholy, takes us on a journey into her personal past. These are prayers, laments, cries and lullabies that have always surrounded her and are therefore deeply anchored in her subconscious. The songs, mostly sung in her mother tongue Norwegian alongside English and Arabic, sound as intense as they are conscious, as intimate as they are international, always wonderfully spiritual and heart-warming.
The internationally acclaimed singer and songwriter, who was born in Oslo and now lives back in her native city after influential stints in New York and Vienna, is now caught up in the sounds and themes of her Norwegian childhood songbook. The result is an organic combination of traditional folk melodies and new original compositions with deeply psychedelic grooves, combining Norwegian folk tunes with the African-American tradition. "Nord" is an extraordinary program that penetrates to the core of universal spirituality. Rebekka Bakken transforms tradition into pulse, the old is made to vibrate again.
