reiheM presents: Karen Willems / Adomas Palekas

Karen Willems (Belgium) is an unconventional drummer, percussionist, composer and musician. Her 2025 album "A Fool's Guide to Reality", released on Valentina Magaletti's label Permanent Draft, shows the spectrum of the trained horticulturist. Her drumming and percussion technique has led her to Yuko, the Zita Swoon Group and Mauro Pawlowski, among others. Willems moves confidently along the fine line between jazz and improvised music, pop and rock, experimental music and musical avant-garde.

Adomas Palekas (Lithuania) questions the material boundaries of electronics and searches for cracks through which the inherently anthropocentric realm of sound culture can be "contaminated". He explores practices that incorporate and pay attention to our biotic and abiotic environment - non-sterile, incorporating the environment not as an extractivist resource, but as a force that reshapes from within. With a focus on expanded circuits of sound, Palekas invites us to reconsider the growing divide between environment, nature and technology, and to imagine how sound and listening might serve as a unifying medium in this context.
