For around 400 years, mankind has been observing distant objects in space with optical telescopes. The diameter of the artificial "owl's eyes" grew from 4 cm for the pioneer Galileo to almost 40 meters for the EXTREMELY LARGE TELESCOPE currently under construction in Chile. In the lecture you will learn about instruments that made history and pushed the edge of the "observable universe" further and further out. New technologies are being used to create giants that will bring the power of a space telescope to Earth. (An event for the whole family, including children aged 10 and over).
