The Rival Sons are considered on both sides of the Atlantic as the modern blues rock benchmark of the last decade. They do not sound retro or wantonly nostalgic, but simply as timeless, close and authentic as this time-honored genre deserves. At the same time, the quartet from Los Angeles easily knows how to breathe fresh life and ultra-modern grooves into this important part of American rock history. They proved this most recently with the album "Feral Roots" released in 2019. It brought the Rival Sons not only their highest chart listings worldwide to date, but also two nominations at the Grammy Awards. Now the band is returning with full force this year: the band will release two albums at once - first "Darkfigter" will be released on June 2, with its counterpart "Lightbringer" following later in the year. With both new albums, Rival Sons will come on a big European tour in the fall and will also play four German shows in Munich, Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg. They are, as they say themselves, "only in it for the music". They want to play concerts, thrill audiences and compose as many rousing songs as possible. To what extent the music industry would follow suit was not important to Rival Sons, who were founded in 2008. Their debut album "Before The Fire" was released exclusively as a digital download via their homepage. With their cool mixture of blues rock, heated soul and edgy, wide-legged rock, they found many fans across the scene, including numerous celebrities such as Kid Rock or Alice Cooper, who promptly signed the Rival Sons as a support act. Jay Buchanan (vocals), Scott Holiday (guitar), Robin Everhart (bass) and Michael Miley (drums) went on tour even before they had officially released an album. Storm Thorgerson, a living legend of cover artwork at least since designing Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon", gave the second album "Pressure & Time" an exciting design, thus helping the band to attract further attention. The album itself was recorded by Rival Sons within two weeks in California. With his enormously expressive voice, Jay Buchanan finally rose to the league of untouchable rock gods and has since often been mentioned in the same breath as Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant or Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. And also about the album, the trade magazines aptly wrote that it was "a single revelation for rockers' ears" and a "future classic of the old school". In 2012 the quartet succeeded with their third album "Head Down", with which they finally conquered the international charts and entered the Top 40 in England, Germany and Switzerland, among others. They also received the Classic Rock Award in the 'Breakthrough Artist' category in 2012. In early 2014, they again dug into the studio in Nashville, Tennessee with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb as well as new bassist Dave Beste to record the follow-up. Together with him, "Great Western Valkyrie" was created in the summer of 2014 and another big step for the band both artistically and commercially. The 2016 album "Hollow Bones" was followed in 2019 by "Feral Roots", the sixth studio album. For many, this album, which even more than its predecessors was recorded almost spontaneously completely live, advanced to one of the most indispensable rock soundtracks through the past years. Now the band used the concert-less time during the COVID pandemic most productively - two new albums, which will be released in the course of this year and are juxtaposed like a yin and yang of blues rock, are waiting for the enthusiastic fans. On them, unforgettable riffs are paired with raw energy, great passion for intense interplay and a solid pinch of retro-soul. - SOLD OUT!
