A man, a chair, alcohol - a wild, three-day bender. Humorous, tragic and poignant: the story of a depressed 27-year-old who escapes his family role and finds himself.
BUKOWSKI in Irish! (You don't know whether to laugh or cry...)
The man is impatient, a depressive pessimist who can no longer stand himself. He is 27 years old and fed up with life: he slipped into a marriage at 20 because the party girl Maria was suddenly pregnant, now he has two children and a deadly boring job.
Overwhelmed by the role of family father, as he is still half a child himself, he takes refuge in alcohol. And the spiral into the abyss spirals ever faster.
One Friday afternoon, he throws his computer out of the office window and quits his job. Naturally, this has to be celebrated in style. A 3-day bender begins, which finally brings him face to face with himself.
One man. A chair. And alcohol.
Rum and Vodka" by Conor McPherson (translation by Christopher Roos and Rachel West),
Play and production: Simon Schriefer
Director: Thomas Höhne
What the press says:
"There is a lot of smoking and even more drinking in "Rum and Vodka". The subject of addiction is not mentioned, but it is the focus from start to finish." Die Rheinpfalz, 15.09.2024
"Schriefer portrays the fact that alcoholism is a serious illness crystal clear and unvarnished in all its unsightly, disgusting, sad and miserable dimensions." Die Rheinpfalz, 15.09.2024
"Schriefer runs rastically across the stage and lounges provocatively on the chair. His facial expressions reflect the agony of his soul. The 90-minute play is impressive."
Badische Neueste Nachrichten, 04.05.2022
"The audience went wild with enthusiasm. (...) Schriefer screams, moans, has dialogs with his fictional wife, with his drinking buddies and screams for salvation in front of a beautiful woman."
Badische Neueste Nachrichten, 04.05.2022
