Richard Wagner once raved about the "miracle harp," referring to the Staatskapelle Dresden. To this day, it is admired throughout the world for its particularly warm, darkly romantic sound. And Christian Thielemann cultivates it with a program that is tailor-made for him.

Romantic orchestral swooning is something of a common thread in this mix of works by Carl Maria von Weber, Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. As a longtime consultant to the Bayreuth Festival, Wagner is something of a part of Thielemann's musical DNA, but he has also imbibed the opulence and timbral magic of a Richard Strauss with his mother's milk, so to speak.
