150 years of Thomas Mann - Three novellas in conversation
On June 6, 1875, one of the most important writers in the German language was born in Lübeck: Thomas Mann. On the occasion of his 150th birthday, we invite you to take a closer look at some aspects of his extensive oeuvre.
The evening will focus on three of his most famous novellas: "Tristan" (1903), "Death in Venice" (1912) and "Mario and the Magician" (1930). These works mark different stages in Thomas Mann's literary development and provide a fascinating insight into his central themes - from the decadent aesthetics of the fin de siècle to existential artistic crises and political considerations.
In conversation with Christian Gohlke, Christine Lubkoll and Christian Begemann, proven experts on German modernist literature, will discuss the genesis, stylistic peculiarities and artistic significance of these stories. Together they will take the audience on a journey through Thomas Mann's artistic universe - a universe that oscillates between irony and seriousness, sensuality and morality, art and life.
