Schulamtsband Backnang (SABB)

The Schulamtsband Backnang, or SABB for short, is coming to the Kulturhaus Schwanen Waiblingen on Friday, November 20, 2026, at 8 pm. The concert will bring cover songs ranging from swing, soul, funk, rock and jazz to the stage. Admission is from 7 pm, the organizer is the Kulturhaus Schwanen.

The name sounds like file folders, official channels and conference rooms. On stage, the opposite happens: SABB stands for brass sections with pressure, a rhythm section with a dry groove and two singers who complement each other sonically with different voices. The Backnang school district band plays its way through a repertoire that ranges from Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles to James Brown, Chicago and Frank Sinatra to Bruno Mars, Jamie Cullum, Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang.

The educational reference is not a gag with SABB, but part of the band's history. The musicians are or were all professionally active in the education sector for the Backnang education authority. They regularly meet up with school bands for school band festivals and bring the stage to life together with young musicians. In this way, the unwieldy name becomes a loving reminder that music lessons can groove - and that musical experience is best passed on when it lives, breathes and sweats.

In the Schwanen, this band meets a hall that is built for dancing, brass power and shared concert moments. Anyone who sees cover music not as a copy, but as an invitation to listen to well-known songs in a new way, will get an evening with soul in their stomach, funk in their legs and enough jazz in their head.

Tickets are available in a solidarity price system for 10 euros, 15 euros or 20 euros. Everyone decides according to their own wallet; no proof is required. As long as there are donations in the "Obendrauf" jar, individual tickets can be subsidized or covered at the box office.
