So wie wir sind
In the organizer's words:
With a total of over 200 works by 100 artists and artist groups from different eras and contexts, there is plenty to discover in the collection exhibition*So wie wir sind*. Across 2,500 square meters, thematic areas and artist-dedicated spaces present a wide variety of approaches from the 1960s to the present.
There are rooms dedicated to political, contemplative, or humanly transformed landscapes; to images of Germany; to love with all its clichés; to gender and cultural identities; to public space; as well as to the concept of painting, vertical form, and the diversity of Blackness. Artist-focused sections dedicated to Mel Chin, Anna Ehrenstein, Isa Genzken, Norbert Schwontkowski, and Sibylle Springer present a concentrated exploration of diverse artistic approaches. Art-historical questions are thus just as much in focus as sociopolitical discourses. Running through the exhibition as a unifying thread is art’s potential to develop resistant perspectives on the familiar, to offer surprising viewpoints on what connects us all, and thus offering exciting, unusual, intelligent, humorous, poetic, or unflinching foundations for approaching the great questions of our time through art.
“An exhibition for everyone who loves art or wants to start loving it now.” Weser-Kurier
