On the nationwide ASTRONOMIETAG - March 28, 2026 - the Volkssternwarte Köln will also take part with a special event. (Tickets to be booked online are free on this Saturday!) Planned program items:
20:00 Lecture: The moon - our companion full of little surprises
The moon is a strange celestial companion: sometimes it appears as a narrow crescent in the evening sky, then in the morning sky, sometimes it can be seen as a full moon in the evening - or even in the morning. Sometimes it appears as a "super moon", then again as a "blood moon" across the sky. And to make matters worse, it moves a few centimetres further away from the earth every year. This lecture explains why all this is so. (An event for the whole family, including children aged 10 and over.) Speaker: Reinhard Schulz
21:00 Observation of the moon, the planet Jupiter and objects in the depths of the Milky Way with the observatory's telescopes and other instruments on the terrace on a clear day. If it is cloudy, we offer you a tour of the observatory and a digital simulation of the observation night on 28.03.2026.
