space_relations public parcours

In the organizer's words:

space_relations focuses on the Weltkunstzimmer 2025 as a place of relationships. The year-round project is being developed in cooperation with conceptual artist Mischa Kuball and focuses on art in public space, institutional responsibility and the role of artistic processes in social negotiations.

In January 2025, the concept team issued a call to local and regional initiatives and
national initiatives and cultural practitioners. Numerous artists and cultural workers have already responded to the call to help shape the project, sharing ideas and realizing and presenting joint projects as part of several joint labs. The first lab took place in March 2025. From June 10 to
13 June 2025, participating artists and contributors to the project will come together again as part of Lab 2 to work together and exchange ideas.

The highlight of the multi-day lab will be the public presentation on Friday, June 13 at 7 p.m., where visitors are invited to an evening-long public parcours in which the participants will give a public insight into their research, artistic practice and theoretical development. The projects are linked by a programmatic key question: What connects us, today and tomorrow?

On display are not completed works, but sketches, research, performances and actions in the making: On 1,200 square meters, visitors are given a special insight into the open process of artistic work. The parcours includes performance,
installation, drawing, video, sound and dance - with transitions between visual and performing arts, participatory elements and space for encounters.

In the field of tension between white cube and urban space, art can be experienced here as a living, socially embedded process. Participation is free of charge and the tour lasts around three hours. The public can come and go at any time.

As part of the second lab, 21 of the participating artists and contributors are represented with their own projects and contributions: Elvire Bonduelle, Rada Boukova, Bidisha Das, Kathrin Dröppelmann, Moïse Fall, Maja Funke, Balz Isler, Wanda Koller, Juri Lechthoff, Leila Orth, Marie Heleen Samrotzki and Ronan Sungeelee, Robin Meier Wiratunga, Vanessa Joan Müller, David JongSung Myung with Louretta & Dr. Schmitt, Daria Nazarenko, Marguerite Pilven, Denise Ritter, Mohamad Moe Sabbah

space_relations was developed together with Mischa Kuball, the Weltkunstzimmer team and a team of international curators. It combines art institution, urban space and the public in an open laboratory that tests new forms of collaboration and participation.
With the open project space_relations, the Weltkunstzimmer and Mischa Kuball want to consciously give space to artistic processes that negotiate and reflect our pluralistic community in a socially challenging and polarizing time.
In doing so, they question how collaboration can succeed and what conditions are necessary for this.

space_relations is funded by the LVR Department of Culture, the Cultural Office of the City of Düsseldorf, the Art and Culture Foundation of the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf and the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Rheinland.
