In his early 30s, Bruce Springsteen is at a turning point in his life. After releasing five albums, musical success had more than arrived by 1982. In the United States at least, he has long been a well-known rock star with several celebrated chart hits. Nevertheless, he is not on the sunny side of life, on the contrary: Springsteen struggles with depression and numerous inner demons. He decides to deal with this struggle through his art. With a simple four-track recorder, he retreats to his bedroom and begins work - both on himself and on a new album, which he would eventually call Nebraska.
