Stefan „Das Eich“ Eichner spielt Reinhard Mey

“You listen to a lot of Reinhard Mey, don’t you? The guitar and the style of the lyrics really remind me of him—wonderful!” Stefan Eichner—better known as “Das Eich”—hears this and similar questions time and again after his concerts. And for good reason: the “laid-back Franconian” is indeed a lover of the chansons by Germany’s most famous singer-songwriter and learned and refined his guitar playing largely through Reinhard Mey’s songs.

Now Stefan Eichner has fulfilled a long-held wish and put together a full-length Reinhard Mey chanson stage program, which he will perform live starting immediately alongside his own music-cabaret shows. Of course, just like Reinhard Mey himself, without a band—just with his guitar. The artist himself describes the evening this way: “These songs have been with me for more than half my life: at home, on tour—basically all the time. Reinhard is one of a kind, impossible to imitate, and that’s not what this program is about anyway. Nor is the concert evening a ‘Best of’ show. Reinhard Mey has written over 500 songs in his career—an incredible achievement. From my perspective, a compilation of, say, his 20 biggest hits wouldn’t do justice to that achievement. That’s exactly why, alongside classics like “Über den Wolken” and “Gute Nacht, Freunde,” you’ll also find songs from the “second and third tiers” that—in my opinion—need to be played as well. In numerous conversations after the concerts, audience members tell me that this is exactly what they like so much. I’m very pleased with this consistently positive feedback, and it always fills me with great anticipation for the next concert!"
