PROTEST EMBROIDERY
New offering once a month on Wednesdays
“When the suffragettes were fighting for women’s suffrage in England, they sewed large banners for their protests and embroidered their demands on them: ‘votes for women.’ In this way, they showed that women aren’t just capable of doing needlework at home, but also have a political voice. In doing so, they actively redefined needlework as a form of protest.” Luisa Hahn, Protest Embroidery Hamburg
We’veadoptedthe “Protest Embroidery” workshop format—because we really love it. Instead ofbeingalone at home, brooding… let’s come together and share ideas at Frauenkultur. You canembroider your anger into little squares orturn it into creative patches, and while doing so, brainstorm ideas together about how to make this world a fairer place… and what role we can play in that.
Embroidery thread and yarn are available—or we’recurrentlytryingto collectsome—or you’re welcome to bring your own. Experienced instructors will be on hand. And anyone who wants to knit or crochet is also welcome.
