Many of Cologne's monuments are normally not or only partially accessible to the public. This changes every year on Open Monument Day®. This year, on September 7 and 8, events will be held at more than 160 locations in Cologne to explore the city's monuments: Cologne has many landmarks, all of which are contemporary witnesses to the history of our city.
In our interactive map and the brochure you will find the participating monuments, their opening times and the programs on offer. Events for families, for people with hearing or visual impairments and for wheelchair users are marked accordingly. Please note that registration is compulsory for some events.
The program offers an insight into Cologne's 2000-year-old monumental landscape: even before the Colonia was founded, the landscape was being shaped, as archaeology can show. The Romans left behind large buildings, the Middle Ages and modern times richly decorated churches as well as magnificent public and private buildings, fortifications and green spaces, settlements, industrial plants, railroads and bridges. It becomes clear: Cologne offers a wide variety of identity-forming monuments and very different landmarks. The reconstruction of numerous sites after the Second World War not only provides relevant information about the monument and the feeling of days long past, but also conveys how society deals with evidence of our history.
