The images we see stay in our heads. The stories we hear tell us about our world. But who recognizes themselves in them? Who writes the scripts for our films, who chooses the faces for them, which worlds are described - and more importantly: which are not?
These questions will be the focus of the conference "Participation in Film (Vol.2)" (November 28 - 30, 2023), which FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is hosting together with the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing. This will once again create a space for exchange and discussion, bringing together an interested public with decision-makers and filmmakers.
The world of art and culture has long since become the scene of a cultural struggle: between conservative and progressive, diverse and exclusive movements. In the face of recent political developments, in which group-related discrimination, polarization and enemy stereotypes are becoming the order of the day, another aspect has been added.
From November 28 to 30, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, in cooperation with the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing, will now continue the dialog that was initiated in March 2022 with the first conference cooperation "Seeing and Being Seen - Participation in Film". What has happened in the meantime? Where are the hurdles? And what does the influence of artificial intelligence mean in this context?
In the search for solutions, the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing will address and discuss the distribution of roles, narratives and visibility in front of the camera as well as the structures and (decision-making) processes behind them. Important initiatives (such as Schwarze Filmschaffende e.V., ARTEF, Netzwerk Film + Demokratie, NewMotion), representatives of various institutions (European Film Academy, MedienNetzwerk Bayern) and, for the first time, representatives of all German funding institutions are expected to attend. International partners will provide exciting impulses.
The conference is sponsored by FFF Bayern and supported by Creative Europe Desk Munich.
