Rituals have always helped us humans come to terms with uncertainty and loss. With this musical meditation, the Ensemble Lumière noire aims to give its audience space to explore their own feelings. Here, French Baroque music meets the spiritual insights of theologian Simone Wosniok, who guides the audience through a kind of “Leçons de Ténèbres” ceremony: with each piece, the flickering light of a candle goes out. Music, created some 300 years ago for the darkness of monastic life, now responds to our need for light, tranquility, and humanity.
