The Omer Count: Fanny Girl is a concert performance with an acoustic repertoire ranging from 19th century classical music to Broadway showtunes to pop, experimental music. Philosophical lectures will also be given. The performance is inspired by Fanny Brice from the musical Funny Girl and Fanny Mendelssohn, a composer of the Romantic period. Drawing on various works from the past and present, Fanny Girl offers the opportunity to experience the diverse musical repertoire of Ariel Efraim Ashbel & friends. In the spirit of Fanny Mendelssohn's Sonntagsmusiken, a musical salon she organized in Berlin-Mitte in the 19th century, Ariel Efraim Ashbel & friends invite the audience into the setting and atmosphere of a music room. The elements of the performance are not fixed, but are constantly in process and unfold during the event.
The event is part of TheOmer Count, a city-wide cycle of spring events exploring the potential of Jewish traditions for contemporary dramaturgy.
