THE WEDDING PRESENT

In the organizer's words:

The Wedding Present - Bizarro 35th Anniversary Tour

The WeddingPresent will play five concerts in Germany in September 2024 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of their classic longplayer Bizarro. The band will play Bizarro in full - along with other classics from their extensive repertoire - in a 90-minute set.

The Wedding Present's second proper studio album, Bizarro [RCA Records, 1989], scaled back the frenetic jangle the band was known for in their early days and replaced it with a healthy dose of darkness and vigor. By adding fuzzy, crunchy distortion to give the guitars a powerful punch, slowing the tempo to one that allowed singer David Gedge to squeeze more gut-wrenching despair and dark sarcasm out of every line, and generally improving their playing in every way, the album was the fullest realization of The Wedding Present's sound to date. Opening with the unstoppable earworm 'Brassneck', in which Gedge brilliantly reads lines that rhyme with "grow up" and "throw up", the album plays like a collection of thematically related singles. The biggest single is 'Kennedy', with brilliant sing-along lyrics and a dramatic guitar build-up that builds into a swirl of sound. The rest of the album is on par; whether it's the sparse 'What Have I Said Now?' or the slow grinding 'Bewitched', you could take any song out and it would feel like a highlight.... especially the epically long 'Take Me!', which closes the album in a frenzy of strums, drum fills and chugging bass that builds and builds until it seems like the song is going to float and take the listener right along with it. The Wedding Present didn't necessarily need to improve on their already successful template, but they did, and it fully pays off on Bizarro.

The tour is presented by Visions, Gästeliste.de and ByteFM.
