Relationship status: complicated. Dana von Suffrin's acclaimed novel "Toxibaby" sums up the attitude to life of millennials, who are often referred to as the "generation incapable of relationships". Herzchen loves Toxi and Toxi loves Herzchen, the two move in together immediately, adopt a dog - and yet nothing works out at all. The couple have a grueling on-off relationship and end up separating 13 times in three years over the course of the novel. What begins as intoxicating love becomes a struggle for closeness and self-assertion, an interplay between devotion and dependence. The author turns the big question of why we keep falling in love with the wrong people into a love story that is as clever as it is mercilessly funny. Dana von Suffrin (*1985) studied in Munich, Naples and Jerusalem. She has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize (2020), the Tukan Prize (2024) and the Chamisso Prize (2025). Her novel "Noch mal von vorne" was longlisted for the German Book Prize 2024.
