Tupoka Ogette: „Trotzdem zuhause”
In the organizer's words:
"This is how my story begins. As the daughter of a white woman and a black man. Between Sange, southern Tanzania, and Gera, Thuringia. Between a colonial past and the GDR dictatorship." In Trotzdem zuhause, Tupoka Ogette tells her own moving life story for the first time. She tells of growing up as a black girl in the GDR, of flight and loss, of arriving in Kreuzberg in the baseball bat years and of an unconventional, loving mother who gave her support. Ogette writes about violence and discrimination, about fractures and contradictions, but also about love, motherhood, resilience and self-empowerment.
Known as a bestselling author, one of the most important voices in the critique of racism in Germany and host of the "tupodcast", Ogette combines personal experiences with social analysis - forcefully, openly and without easy answers. In a reading and conversation with Sharon Dodua Otoo, she talks about life in the in-between, about simultaneity, survival and hope, and about what it can mean today to still feel at home.
"Rarely do you read texts that are written with such an open, honest heart. Tupoka Ogette tells of life and survival in Germany. Of struggle and triumph. Of despair and hope."
