In five historically structured sections, the exhibition explores the question of what has been typical of Munich since when and, above all, why. More than 400 exhibits illustrate the history and fortunes of a city that for many - rightly or wrongly - is considered one of the world's favorite places. The late self-discovery of Munich as a bourgeois city in connection with the city jubilee of 1858 is portrayed, stimulating words such as "beer city" and "art city" become visible, the cultural spirit of departure around 1900, the "capital of the movement" and the resurgence of the "secret capital" in the time of the economic miracle are outstanding stations. Everyone, especially everyone from Munich, has a very specific image of this city. Through the installations of the research and collection project "Migration Moves the City," the permanent exhibition "Typically Munich!" is expanded to include the multifaceted history of migration, without which Munich is unthinkable. The interventions break with the chronology of the exhibition and at the same time comment on its mode of presentation in a questioning way.
