Cologne's bunkers are relics from terrible times. At some point, they were converted into rehearsal rooms, shooting ranges or cultural centers. High bunkers are visible, other bunkers can be accessed through hidden entrances or floor slabs. Many people are unaware that there are several nuclear bunkers in Cologne. Underground car parks and subway stations sometimes have a dual function.

The tubular bunker in front of the Higher Regional Court on Reichenspergerplatz is the starting point of the cycle tour. We cycle together through the city and visit the nuclear bunkers at Rudolfplatz and the Kalk-Post stop.

People did indeed seek and find shelter in the tube bunker. This is not the case for every bunker. The nearby shelter at Fort X was hit and destroyed. Interesting details are presented in the nuclear bunker at Rudolfplatz. In the 1970s, several bus stops and underground car parks were planned as nuclear bunkers. In the Kalk-Post nuclear bunker, you can get an exact picture of how it was ensured that people would survive for 14 days during a nuclear attack. Due to the current global political situation, more and more bunkers are being built again.

• We ride in a group. Please pay attention to the traffic and follow the traffic regulations. Cologne is developing into a cycling city. Nevertheless, there will always be people who are surprised or annoyed by a bicycle association.
