arnival is as much a part of Cologne as the cathedral - and has been for over 200 years. For a long time, Jewish carnival performers and stage artists celebrated by the public, such as Hans Tobar, were a natural part of this celebration of cheerfulness and togetherness. But even before the 1930s, they experienced the spread of anti-Semitism and marginalization. They were excluded from clubs, societies and events. Their performances, songs and plays were forgotten.
