The topic “Youth During the Nazi Era” can be examined from many perspectives. In this workshop, we’ll focus on the life stories of Polish children and adolescents who were deported by the Germans to the so-called “Litzmannstadt Youth Detention Camp in Poland” and imprisoned there. Using historical sources and eyewitness accounts, we will explore why the German occupiers established this camp, how the children and adolescents lived and suffered there, and what consequences this experience had for the rest of their lives.

The workshop also provides a space for group discussion on why knowledge of this youth concentration camp remains significant today—especially in Germany. We will express our reflections through collages.

The workshop is led by Eva Piňosová and Lukas Hübner in cooperation with the Alter Schlachthof Memorial Site and is open to participants ages 16 and older. Duration: approximately 3.5 hours.

Organizers: Memorial and Commemoration Site of the State Capital of Düsseldorf & zakk, in cooperation with the Anti-Racist Education Forum Rhineland and the Alter Schlachthof Memorial Site. With the kind support of LAG Soziokultur NRW, the Ministry of Culture and Science, and the LVR Rhineland / Youth Support.
