We present historical brocade papers from the collections of the Book Museum
Invented in Augsburg around 1690, brocade papers embossed with metal leaf are among the most magnificent and precious sheets of applied graphic art. They were mainly used for homage writings, wedding speeches or funeral sermons and as endpapers or binding papers. The presentation shows selected examples as whole sheets, leaves and fragments, as well as brochures and books from our collections.
