Vortrag: Kinderhexen

Why shouldn’t children accept anything from strangers? What exactly is the difference between witchcraft and magic? And what on earth is “making mice”? We want to get to the bottom of these and other questions. Drawing on court records, letters, and treatises, we’ll provide insights into the witch hunts of the 17th century in Westphalia. The focus here isn’t on women at the stake, but on children who were suspected of witchcraft. We’ll examine their behavior, their emotions, and the environment that was both afraid of them and concerned for them—and thus documented their stories.
