This fall, Voxtrot is coming to Berlin for an exclusive concert to present their new album, “Dreamers in Exile.” The indie heroes from Texas are thus opening another chapter in their impressive comeback and inviting fans to an evening that brings together the past and present of their band’s history. More than a decade after their breakup, Voxtrot made a spectacular comeback in 2022—and have been steadily writing the next chapter of their story ever since. Founded in 2003, the band—featuring singer and guitarist Ramesh Srivastava, guitarist Mitch Calvert, bassist Jason Chronis, keyboardist Jared van Fleet, and drummer Matt Simon—played a major role in shaping the blog era of the 2000s. With EPs like “Raised By Wolves” and “Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives” on their own label, Cult Hero Records, they garnered international attention. In 2006, “Your Biggest Fan” climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales Charts, and their self-titled 2007 album reached No. 14 on the Heatseekers Charts. The reunion was met with enthusiasm: In addition to the re-release of the “Early Music” EP and the rarities collection “Cut From The Stone,” the band embarked on its first tour in over ten years. Even before the final concert, it was clear that new music was on the way. In January 2023, recording for “Dreamers in Exile” began at Jason Chronis’s Haunted Air Studio in Lockhart, Texas. Dean Reid, who has previously worked with Lana Del Rey and James Blake, handled the mix. The album features eleven powerful songs that blend the characteristic Voxtrot sound of the 2000s with a newfound maturity. The opener “Another Fire” offers a poignant reflection on time and history, while “Fighting Back,” “New World Romance,” and the title track “Dreamers in Exile” explore themes of hope, disillusionment, and resilience. “Esprit de Cœur” and “Rock & Roll Jesus” provide pointed highlights before “Babylone” concludes the album with cinematic intensity. With the singles “Fighting Back” and “My Peace”—a lively anthem featuring Spanish-tinged guitar and Memphis soul-inspired horns—Voxtrot underscore their renewed energy. “Dreamers in Exile” is already being hailed by Pitchfork and BrooklynVegan as one of the most anticipated albums of 2026.
