ALICE COSTELLOE
In the organizer's words:
Her crystal-clear voice floats above a multi-layered soundscape, and her lightness contrasts with the gravity of the themes she explores: Alice Costelloe is one of the most remarkable discoveries in British indie pop in recent years. Before Costelloe emerged as a solo artist, she was known as a member of the critically acclaimed shoegaze duo Big Deal (Mute Records) and as the live bassist for the Birmingham indie band Superfood. In 2023, she released her first solo EP, “So Neurotic,” under the name Al Costelloe, and in 2024 she signed with Moshi Moshi Records—the iconic London label that provided an early home for artists such as Florence and the Machine, Bloc Party, and Disclosure. Her second EP, “When It’s The Time,” produced by Mike Lindsay (Laura Marling, Anna B Savage, LUMP), was released on that label.
On her debut album, “Move On With The Year,” released in February 2026, Costelloe, together with Mike Lindsay, takes a decisive step: moving away from the indie rock aesthetic of her band days toward a delicate yet bold art-pop that weaves floating Mellotron pads, gentle taishogoto sounds, and soft piano textures into a soundscape of human warmth. Fluttering flute lines, recorded right in the middle of class, symbolize her conscious choice of imperfection as the truest form of expression.
At the heart of her new work lies her relationship with her father, who struggled with addiction—the burden of a complicated parent-child relationship and a kind of grief that cannot be easily resolved, yet which the singer-songwriter navigates without bitterness, instead with stoic honesty and remarkable tenderness. The Guardian called it “riveting,” MOJO described it as “a moving solo debut of dark, surreal art-pop,” and ByteFM named it “Album of the Week.” The album resonates as a companion to a process of growing up anew, of reshaping one’s emotional foundation and identity. It is a document of the slow, quiet work required to rebuild oneself and take the next step with an eye toward the future.
Live, Costelloe brings the raw, tender themes of the album to the stage with the same intensity that characterizes her studio recordings—intimate, atmospheric, and haunting until the very last note, her sound shines, turning vulnerability into strength. In March 2026, Alice Costelloe played two sold-out shows in London; on September 15, 2026, she will perform live at the Prachtwerk.
