»Was die Zeit nicht nimmt« Lesung mit Marek Torčik
In the organizer's words:
Host: Stephanie von Oppen (Deutschlandfunk)
Reading: Thomas Hauser (Residenztheater)
Alcohol, poverty, and violence were part of everyday life for Marek, a queer boy growing up in a Czech industrial city. After fleeing to Prague, he is once again confronted with memories of his past when his grandfather dies.
“If you can’t adapt to your surroundings, then you learn, in a sense, to find other ways to move, to live, to think—yes, to accept yourself,”
says Torčík, delivering a novel full of untamed and fragmented memories about self-discovery, forgiveness, and love. And with great success: “What Time Does Not Take Away” (Anthea Verlag // German translation by Mirko Kraetsch) is the most internationally successful Czech novel in decades, translated into 27 languages.
