In 2022, choreographer Wen Hui moved from Beijing to Frankfurt am Main at the age of 62. Many were surprised, as the years after sixty are generally considered the final phase of life. Wen Hui, however, dared to make a radical fresh start—inspired by the Chinese belief that a new life cycle begins at the age of sixty. In “wir/us,” the choreographer invites eight women from Frankfurt over the age of 60 to share the stage with her and explore this special phase of life. Each brings her own unique life story and experiences of social change, which have become inscribed in their bodies. While the aging bodies of women are often rendered invisible in everyday life, Wen Hui and her fellow performers discover them as precious repositories of knowledge, as a source of solidarity, resistance, and new beginnings. And they transform the stage into a place for play, silliness, and celebration.
