The Südfriedhof has a comforting atmosphere. Many women from Cologne are buried here, and their fascinating lives are chronicled: a dancer, a chronicler of the women’s movement during the Weimar Republic, two sociologists, a feminist politician, one of the two founders of Cologne’s Rhiannon Women’s Bookstore, and, last but not least, two Social Democratic sisters who, after women gained the right to vote in 1919, were the first women to speak in the National Assembly and the Cologne City Council, respectively. Who knows their names? Who knows their stories?
