WORK IN PROGRESS" by AMIT NAAMANI is about the need to always create something and think about creating. Even if it is not necessarily always about painting or creating art, the impulse is always there. It's about constantly making new connections in the mind. It's about the burden, the uncertainty, the hopes and the perseverance that comes with being an artist. AMIT NAAMANI's paintings and collages are about having an intention, being grateful and discovering more soon.

Progress is shown in songs, books, in words scribbled on paper and in the artists with whom AMIT NAAMANI maintains a constant dialog. Song lyrics, sentence fragments or phrases that he picks up in everyday life. Language stands alongside images, both of which can carry beauty. In the studio, these words become part of the work, sometimes directly, when a phrase creeps into a painting.

AMIT NAAMANI's work is an exploration of empty space, the unfinished, the in-between and raw emotion. The progress or process of thinking and creating is as important as the finished paintings. Abstract marks, raw and even "ugly", coexist with delicate images, creating maps or new configurations. A blue bird, a flower or historical events can appear next to a skull or a grim reaper. In this tension, the wild with the delicate, the chaotic with the ordered, I find beauty.

When all these elements come together, a portrait of his thought process and sources of inspiration emerges. This balance between chaos and control, spontaneity and order forms the core of his work.

In his process, AMIT NAAMANI keeps art books open around him as reference so that images, words and fragments of thought can flow naturally into the work. It is a circular process of creating, erasing and documenting, a kind of visual diary. Every doodle, every line and every word is tied to a specific moment in time.

This work delves deep into his private archive, presenting two new series of paintings and collages on paper alongside diaries and sketchbooks from the last 10 years. The paintings often look like extended sketchbook pages, multi-layered and multi-faceted.
