In this very physical workshop, dancer Greta Salagado gives insight into a movement practice at the intersection of contemporary dance techniques, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the body awareness of somatic practices. Her unique perspective on this intelligent martial art allows for rawness and confrontation framed by a tender and respectful communication with ourselves and other bodies in space. Coordination, strength, cardio and self-regulating breath work lay the foundation for a sustainable use of our energy in partner exercises inspired by principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The focus of the workshop is to find strategies on how to stay tender in this powerful and sweaty mode. Consent and awareness of our own limits will be key to allowing pleasure and joy to set the tone in this training. The workshop includes an extended warm-up, a sweat-inducing middle section and a deeply relaxing cool-down.
