YanaWernicke and Jonas Feige traveled to Cameroon several times to follow in the footsteps of the Leipzig-born gardener and botanist Georg August Zenker (1855-1922) and to portray his descendants. Using a montage of their own photographs, recovered letters, drawings and interviews, they shed light on a very ambivalent figure in German colonial history and his complicated legacy. Their book "Zenker" was published in 2021 by Edition Patrick Frey.
Yana Wernicke and Jonas Feige both studied under Ute and Werner Mahler at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie. Their work, in which they combine artistic and documentary approaches, has been exhibited and awarded nationally and internationally.
