40 Years of Allerweltskino - Anniversary Program

Nearly ten hours of documentary film over a single weekend: a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily lives of young textile workers. In his trilogy—whose parts can also be viewed individually—Chinese director Wang Bing observes young people who leave their villages every year to find work.

In the first part, “Spring,” we get a glimpse inside sweatshops and cramped dormitories. We see the young people sewing for hours on end. They joke, argue, flirt, and make plans. They discuss the latest iPhone, go shopping, fall in and out of love.

But this is not a film about inhumane exploitation, global supply chains, cheap clothing, or the relentless drive for productivity. It’s about how life unfolds.
