ZOE JUX - Stille, die zeichnet

In the organizer's words:

"Since I was born," writes ZOE JUX, "I have lived in complete silence - a world without noise, without the hum of the city or the whisper of the wind. Unimaginable for many, but for me this silent world is a place of strength and clarity.
No noise distracts me and my eyes are my constant companions with which I explore the world. I move through this silence, guided by my senses, and I am proud to live in this particular way."

In her exhibition at MaximiliansForum, the deaf Hamburg artist ZOE JUX - whose real name is Tanja Schulz - takes us on a humorous, ironic and profound journey into the everyday lives of deaf people. Through her comics and animated films, she depicts the challenges, but also the special moments of a life in silence.

Her animated films revolve around the question of how it is possible to understand and communicate without sound, and convey how visual communication and body language can replace the world of sound. Her comics, on the other hand, are characterized by humorous misunderstandings and typical everyday situations between deaf and hearing people. The artist name ZOE JUX is a tribute by Tanja Schulz to her great-grandfather, who was also a comic artist, died young and bore this artist name. Tanja Schulz feels connected to him and continues his passion for drawing in her own work.

The exhibition project "Silence that draws" creates a publicly visible space for the deaf community. At the same time, this project aims to strengthen mutual awareness and networking between deaf and hearing people.

The exhibition will be accompanied by various events and the "Stille Welt" festival, in collaboration with ZOE JUX, artists from the Munich comic scene, representatives from the deaf culture, the Färberei/ Köşk (diefaerberei.de) and the Gehörlosenverband München und Umland e.V. (gmu.de) and the educational and cultural platform padkig (padkig.de)

The events are free and will be translated into German sign language.
