It was the first slacker film ever, and this before the term "slacker" was even invented!

Martin embodies one of the slacker types who live out their days in the Schwabing summer, don't work at all or only occasionally and reject all social norms and responsibilities. At the urging of his friend Henry, an unsuccessful actor, he goes to the police station to give a witness statement about a burglary he witnessed at night. However, his careless and provocative behavior only makes him a suspect himself. A chance encounter with Barbara (Uschi Glas), a perky girl from a middle-class family, slowly makes him doubt whether his laid-back lifestyle can last.

Director May Spils, who is only 26 years old, captures the spirit of the times with her undisguised view of reality. Like Jean-Luc Godard and other directors of the Nouvelle Vague, she took to the streets to find her themes and protagonists. The famous press photo of her on set in Munich's well-attended Ungererbad, dressed only in a bikini and carrying a revolver, is characteristic.
