The Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur

The Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur focuses on factual documentary photography as a means of artistic expression. The collection includes over 30,000 works by historical and contemporary photographers of various nationalities.

The Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur is responsible for the conservation and scientific management of its collection. It also carries out research projects and designs and realizes exhibitions that contribute to the regional, national and international art and cultural scene. The exhibition rooms of the Photographic Collection/SK Stiftung Kultur cover a total area of 450 square meters and - just like the depot and workrooms - meet the special climatic requirements of the medium of photography.

There is a close collaboration with many artists, such as the American artist Jim Dine, who has entrusted his photographic work to the collection since 2004. Extensive bodies of work by Bernd & Hilla Becher, Boris Becker, Joachim Brohm, William Christenberry, Paul Dobe, Ruth Hallensleben, Gabriele and Helmut Nothhelfer, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Wilhelm Schürmann and Stephen Shore are also looked after. The collection is continually being expanded, including through permanent loans and donations.
