The history of the Schmitz family business began in 1949. Sophia and Gottfried Schmitz opened their restaurant at Rheinstraße 6 in the space that had previously been used as a rowing boat shed. Before that, they had already been running a butcher shop in the neighboring building. Over many decades, the restaurant evolved into a popular gathering place in Rodenkirchen and beyond.

Initially, it was operated as a Kolping House. In addition to Rhineland cuisine and fresh draft beer, renting out simple rooms to journeymen was also part of daily life. Later, Jarka and Fredi Schmitz took over the business. To meet growing demand, they had the building demolished in 1997 and rebuilt in its current form. Until 2014, the restaurant was run as a home-style eatery and subsequently as a steakhouse.

Today, 75 years after it opened, Haus Schmitz continues its tradition in a new form. With tapas and beer, we combine Rhineland hospitality with a Mediterranean lifestyle. Our cuisine is all about sharing good times, while our dining room and terrace offer an open and warm atmosphere.
