As the founding city of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP), Munich is linked to the rise of National Socialism like no other city. The Munich Documentation Center for National Socialism deals with this difficult past at the site of the 'Brown House', the former party headquarters of the NSDAP. In exhibitions, events, digital projects and educational programs, it conveys the history of National Socialism with a view to the present and future and considers the historical experiences of the National Socialist dictatorship in a current and global context. Other key topics include war and genocide, racism and anti-Semitism, exclusion and flight.

The permanent exhibition "Munich and National Socialism" takes a critical look at the history of this place and the historical significance of Munich as the former 'capital of the movement'. The exhibition documents the city's Nazi history, provides in-depth historical knowledge about the founding and rise of the NSDAP in Munich, the city's special role in the dictatorship's system of terror and the difficulties of dealing with this past since 1945. This is achieved on several floors with photographs, documents and texts as well as films and media stations. The exhibition is aimed at a wide audience and is bilingual in German and English. A learning area with media tables, research stations, a library and seminar rooms invites visitors to delve deeper into the content and themes of the exhibition.

The initiative for the establishment of an NS documentation center came from committed citizens. At the end of 2005, the Free State of Bavaria made the site of the former 'Brown House' available as the location for the NS Documentation Center. The Munich NS Documentation Center opened on May 1, 2015.
